AngelSense: A Lifeline for Parents and Schools – My Commitment as a Parent
As a mother and candidate for the Garvey School District Board, Sydney "Susie" Cubas shares her commitment to introducing AngelSense, a GPS tracking device designed for children with special needs. In this heartfelt article, she explains how AngelSense can transform school safety, provide peace of mind to parents, and empower special needs students. Susie outlines her vision for implementing AngelSense in our schools and why it’s a critical tool for creating an inclusive, safe, and supportive environment for all children. Whether elected or not, her dedication to the safety and well-being of every child in our community remains unwavering.
As a mother of two and a candidate for the Garvey School District Board, my commitment to the safety and well-being of our children goes beyond any campaign. Ensuring a secure environment for our kids, especially those with special needs, is my top priority. Whether I am elected or not, I am dedicated to bringing AngelSense to our schools as a game-changing tool that offers peace of mind to parents and significantly enhances the safety of our children. AngelSense is not just another gadget – it's a lifeline, a beacon of hope, and a guardian for families navigating the complexities of raising children with special needs.
Understanding the Challenges Faced by Special Needs Families
As a parent, I have faced countless sleepless nights, worrying about my children's safety. For parents of special needs children, this anxiety is often heightened. Children with conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Down Syndrome, or other cognitive and developmental delays are more prone to wandering or experiencing overwhelming moments of anxiety. These behaviors can put them in dangerous situations, and the fear of not knowing their whereabouts can be paralyzing for parents.
Statistics reveal that nearly half of children with autism attempt to wander from safe environments, making the need for an effective tracking solution like AngelSense all the more pressing. These children may have difficulty communicating, understanding danger, or finding their way back to safety, which creates an urgent need for a proactive safety measure that helps parents and educators keep track of them.
Why AngelSense Matters to Me as a Parent and Advocate
I first learned about AngelSense when looking for ways to ensure my daughters’ safety. It was clear that this device wasn’t just a simple GPS tracker; it was a comprehensive safety solution designed specifically for special needs children. The technology behind AngelSense is tailored to address the unique challenges faced by parents and caregivers, providing real-time tracking, emergency alerts, and two-way voice communication. These features provide the reassurance and peace of mind that every parent deserves.
It became evident that AngelSense could be a game-changer not only for me but also for countless families across our district who are struggling to ensure the safety of their children. This is why I feel so passionately about advocating for its use in our schools. No parent should have to live in constant fear for their child’s safety, and no child should have to face unnecessary risks when a solution like AngelSense exists.
AngelSense: A Proven Solution for School Safety
Thousands of schools nationwide have already integrated AngelSense into their safety protocols, and the results have been overwhelmingly positive. This GPS tracking device provides real-time updates on a child's location, which means parents and school staff can immediately be notified if a child leaves a designated area or if there is an emergency. This instant communication is crucial, especially for children who are prone to wandering or who may not respond to traditional safety measures.
AngelSense isn’t just about knowing where a child is; it’s about creating a safety net that surrounds them at all times. Its features go beyond simple GPS tracking, offering:
Real-Time Location Monitoring: Parents and school staff can see a live map of the child’s location, ensuring they are always within a safe environment.
Two-Way Voice Communication: Parents can talk to their child or listen in to what's happening around them. This feature is especially valuable in situations where the child may be in distress or unable to communicate verbally.
SOS Alerts: Children can press an SOS button to alert their parents if they are in danger or need assistance, adding another layer of security and confidence for both the child and their caregivers.
School Bus Monitoring: One of the most stressful times for parents of special needs children is the daily journey to and from school. AngelSense offers school bus tracking, providing alerts if there are unexpected stops, delays, or if the child gets off at the wrong stop.
Empowering Special Needs Students with AngelSense
One of the most significant benefits of AngelSense is its ability to empower children with special needs. Children who may be non-verbal or who struggle with anxiety often feel isolated and misunderstood. Having a device that allows them to communicate with their parents, even in the most challenging situations, gives them a sense of security and confidence. It’s not just about tracking their location; it’s about providing them with a voice when they need it most.
In addition to preventing wandering, AngelSense can help children who face bullying, ensuring they are never left to navigate these difficult situations alone. It offers parents a way to intervene and support their child, even when they’re not physically present. This empowerment is invaluable and can have a profound impact on a child's emotional well-being and sense of safety.
Addressing Concerns and Working with Schools
Introducing new technology into a school setting can sometimes raise concerns about privacy, liability, and compliance with regulations. However, AngelSense has worked diligently to address these concerns, ensuring that the device complies with all federal and state laws, including privacy regulations like HIPAA and FERPA. It does not record conversations, and its voice features can be easily disabled during school hours if required by school policies.
As part of my vision for implementing AngelSense in our district, I am committed to working closely with school administrators, teachers, and parents to ensure a seamless integration. This includes:
Collaborating with School Staff: Providing training and support for teachers and school staff to understand how AngelSense works and how it can enhance student safety.
Creating a School Dashboard: Schools can have access to a dedicated dashboard that allows designated staff members to monitor the device, ensuring it aligns with the school's safety protocols.
Engaging School Liaisons: AngelSense offers dedicated School Liaisons who can assist in navigating any concerns or questions, making it easier for schools to adopt the technology.
My Vision for AngelSense in Our District
As a candidate for the Garvey School District Board, I want to be a voice for all parents who worry about their children’s safety, and I believe AngelSense is a step in the right direction. My vision includes:
Raising Awareness: Many parents and educators may not be familiar with the benefits of AngelSense. I aim to organize workshops, informational sessions, and community events to spread awareness about how this device can improve safety for special needs students.
Securing Funding: Recognizing that not every family can afford AngelSense, I will work to identify grants, state funding, and partnerships that can subsidize or fully cover the cost of the device for families in need.
Building a Collaborative Community: It’s essential that we work together – parents, teachers, school administrators, and community members – to create a safer environment for all students. By fostering open communication and collaboration, we can ensure that every child receives the support they need.
The Role of AngelSense in Creating a Safe and Inclusive Learning Environment
The benefits of AngelSense extend beyond safety. By integrating this device into our schools, we can create a more inclusive environment for special needs children. They can participate in activities with greater confidence, knowing they have a safety net. Teachers can focus on teaching without the constant worry of a child wandering, and parents can feel secure knowing their child is protected.
AngelSense can also be included as part of a child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP), ensuring that safety measures are tailored to their specific needs. This customization is crucial for children who may have different triggers or challenges that lead to wandering or other safety concerns.
Stories of Hope: Real-Life Impact of AngelSense
Hearing real-life stories of how AngelSense has saved lives and brought peace of mind to families is what truly inspired me to advocate for its use. There are countless accounts of children who have been safely located after wandering, thanks to the immediate alerts and real-time tracking provided by AngelSense. Parents have been able to intervene in bullying situations, provide comfort during moments of distress, and even prevent potential accidents on school buses – all because of this incredible device.
These stories aren’t just statistics; they represent real families, just like ours, who have found a lifeline in AngelSense. It’s my goal to ensure that every family in our district has access to this level of safety and support.
Together, We Can Make a Difference
I am committed to being more than just a candidate – I want to be a partner to parents, teachers, and community members in making our schools safer for all children. AngelSense is one of the many tools we can use to achieve this goal, and I firmly believe that by working together, we can create an environment where every child feels safe, supported, and empowered.
Whether I am elected or not, my dedication to introducing AngelSense to our district will remain unwavering. I invite you to join me in this mission to provide our children with the safety, security, and support they deserve. Together, we can build a community where every child can thrive, knowing they are protected and cared for.
Let’s Build a Safer Community Together
If you’re interested in learning more about AngelSense, have questions about my vision for safety in our schools, or want to share your thoughts, I’m here to listen. As parents, educators, and community members, we all have a role to play in ensuring that our children are safe, happy, and able to reach their full potential.
Let’s take this journey together – one step at a time, one child at a time – and make our schools a place where every child feels protected, valued, and loved.

As a candidate for the Garvey School District Board, I am incredibly honored to have the endorsement of Sandra Armenta, a dedicated member of the Rosemead City Council and a passionate advocate for special needs students. Sandra’s 21 years of experience as both a Special Education and General Education teacher have made her a true champion for families who need guidance and support. Her work in this community has left a lasting impact, and I’m excited to share how her endorsement strengthens my vision for enhancing special education in our district.
Sandra Armenta's Journey in Special Education
Sandra’s journey began over two decades ago, working closely with families and students to ensure they had access to quality education and essential services. Her efforts to inform parents about their rights and provide them with the resources needed to support their children have made a profound difference in Rosemead and beyond.
Sandra’s commitment to advocating for special needs students isn't just professional—it's deeply rooted in her passion for education. Her ability to navigate the complexities of special education, while always prioritizing the needs of children, has set a standard I hope to uphold as a member of the Garvey School District Board.
How Sandra's Vision Aligns with My Mission
Sandra Armenta's dedication to special needs students aligns perfectly with my vision for the Garvey School District. I believe that every child, regardless of their abilities or challenges, deserves a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Her approach to being present, listening to families, and ensuring their voices are heard resonates strongly with my goals for our district.
If elected, I plan to expand on Sandra’s work by advocating for:
Increased Funding for Special Education Programs – I will push for more resources to support students with special needs, ensuring they have access to individualized education plans, specialized equipment, and dedicated support staff.
Building Awareness and Understanding – By working closely with parents, teachers, and community members, I aim to raise awareness about the challenges faced by special needs students and provide workshops and resources to empower families.
Creating an Inclusive Learning Environment – All students, regardless of their abilities, should feel welcomed and valued. I will advocate for inclusive practices, where special education students learn alongside their peers, fostering empathy, understanding, and friendship.
My Plan for Enhancing Special Education in Garvey School District
1. Engaging with Families and Building Support Networks
Just as Sandra has done throughout her career, I intend to build strong relationships with families. I will organize regular forums and support groups where parents can share their experiences, challenges, and ideas. By creating a space for open dialogue, we can work together to address the needs of our special education community.
2. Strengthening Teacher Training and Support
Teachers play a critical role in supporting special needs students, and they need ongoing training and resources to succeed. I will advocate for:
Professional development workshops on best practices in special education.
Mentorship programs pairing experienced special education teachers with new educators.
Access to the latest tools and technologies that aid in teaching students with special needs.
3. Collaboration with Community Partners
To create a holistic support system, I will seek partnerships with local organizations, healthcare providers, and therapy centers. These collaborations will enable us to offer services such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, and counseling within our schools, making it easier for families to access the help their children need.
4. Expanding Early Intervention Programs
Early intervention is crucial for special needs students. I will advocate for programs that identify learning challenges early on, ensuring that students receive the support they need from the start. This includes implementing screenings, assessments, and resources for families to navigate the special education process.
5. Increasing Funding and Resources
Securing additional funding for special education is a top priority. I will work to identify grants, state funding, and partnerships that can provide our schools with the resources they need to support every child. By doing so, we can provide students with the tools, technology, and assistance that will enable them to thrive.
Q&A: Addressing Common Questions about Special Education
1. How will you ensure that special education students receive the support they need?
I plan to work closely with teachers, parents, and administrators to ensure that our special education programs are well-funded, staffed, and equipped with the necessary resources to provide individualized support.
2. How can we create a more inclusive environment for special needs students?
By promoting inclusive teaching practices and providing professional development for teachers, we can create classrooms where all students, regardless of their abilities, feel welcomed and supported.
3. What role will parents play in your plan for special education?
Parents are crucial partners in the education of special needs students. I will establish regular forums and support networks to ensure that parents have a voice in decision-making and access to resources.
4. How will you address the shortage of special education teachers?
I will advocate for incentives such as signing bonuses, ongoing training, and mentorship programs to attract and retain talented special education teachers.
5. What steps will you take to improve early intervention for special needs children?
I plan to implement early screening programs and provide training for teachers to identify learning challenges as early as possible, ensuring that students receive the support they need from a young age.
Why This Matters: Creating a More Inclusive Future
Sandra Armenta’s endorsement is more than just a show of support—it’s a testament to our shared commitment to improving the lives of special needs students in the Garvey School District. By working together, we can create a more inclusive environment where every child feels valued, understood, and capable of achieving their full potential.
