How to Participate in Garvey School District Board Meetings – Your Voice Matters!

As a candidate for the Garvey School District Board, I believe in the importance of community engagement and transparency. One of the best ways to get involved in the decision-making process is by attending and participating in the Garvey School District Board of Education meetings. Here’s a guide on how you can take part and make your voice heard!

Location and Schedule of Board Meetings

The Garvey School District Board meetings are held in person and are open to the public at the following location:

Education Center – Garvey School District
2730 Del Mar Ave.,
Rosemead, CA 91770

Meetings typically start with a public session at 6:30 p.m. and continue with a closed session at 7:00 p.m. They are scheduled every three weeks, giving you multiple opportunities to participate. Below are the remaining meeting dates for 2024:

  • October 10, 2024

  • November 7, 2024

  • December 12, 2024

You can view the full calendar on the district's website for more details.

How to Address the Board

If you wish to speak at a Board meeting, here's what you need to do:

  1. Submit a "Request to Address the Board" Form – This form is available at the meeting location and must be submitted to the Board Secretary before the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.

  2. Prepare Your Comments – You’ll have up to five (5) minutes to present your thoughts on the topic at hand. Remember to state your name as you begin your remarks.

  3. Time Limits – There is a twenty-five-minute limit per item, so make your points clear and concise.

Remember, Board meetings are conducted to address the business of the Board, so while your comments are welcome, the Board cannot take immediate action on matters not posted on the agenda.

Requesting an Agenda Item

If there's a topic you'd like the Board to discuss at an upcoming meeting, you can request to have it placed on the agenda. To do so:

  1. Download the Request for Agenda Item Form from the district's website.

  2. Complete the Form with supporting documents and information.

  3. Submit Your Request – Email the completed form to the Board Secretary at mdang@gesd.us at least eight (8) workdays before the scheduled meeting date.

Disability Accommodation Requests

If you require any accommodations to participate in a public meeting, please contact mdang@gesd.us at least 48 hours before the scheduled meeting to request the necessary arrangements.

Why Your Participation Matters

By attending and engaging in Board meetings, you play a crucial role in shaping the future of the Garvey School District. Your input helps guide decisions that impact our students, teachers, and community. Together, we can create an inclusive environment where every voice is heard, and every concern is addressed.

As a candidate for the Garvey School District Board, I am committed to ensuring that these meetings remain accessible and that all community members feel encouraged to participate.
